Three Headlines...(OT)
Here are three headlines from the same page of today's Tulsa World:
Report to say Iraqis haven't met any goals
Monthly cost for conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan: $12B
Iraqis warn against hasty withdrawal
So the Iraqi government is unable to help their own people, and we have to prop them up at a cost of billions each month, and they want us to keep on doing so for the foreseeable future. Thousands of lives have been lost. More thousands have been maimed. And our commander-in-chief's only plan is to push this off onto his successor.
Impeach the bastards - both Bush and Cheney. At worst they're the most corrupt administration is our history. At best, they're the most incompetent. They've trampled our rights, illegally imprisoned citizens, and ignored international law and our own courts. We have a system of checks and balances. It's time to check these guys - hard.
I know, I know. Some of you would be terrified of the very prospect of President Pelosi, but I ask you, would we be better off?

Yep, I was pissed. We're throwing lives and money down a rat hole.
I'm curious about something. I keep hearing people say that George W. Bush has trampled civil rights, but nobody seems to be able to identify anything that they can't do now that they could do in 1999. Is there such a thing? I mean, other than carry boxcutter knives on commercial aircraft.

Well, we could start with the Patriot Act requirements for libraries to turn over your records without a warrant; the sneak and peek searches; or the telecom giants turning over your phone and internet records without a warrant. We could mention Jose Padilla, a US citizen arrested and held without charges in a military prison, denied access to an attorney, and deprived of those basic civil rights that any citizen should expect to exercise. We could mention the Bush campaign rallies during the campaign that excluded any but Republicans. How can ordinary American's voices be heard if they're excluded? For that matter, why are so-called 'free speech' zones located far away from Bush and Cheney's appearances? I thought the free speech zone extended from Canada in the north to Mexico in the south, and included all that area between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Gosh, that was fun. It's a good start, anyway.

You can fret all you want about the FBI looking at your public library records, but the IRS has had the power to do the same thing with your bank for years. As for freedom of speech, I guess that doesn't apply to students engaged in private prayer at public schools or radio talk show hosts. I don't notice that your freedom of speech has been impeded.
As for Mr. Padilla, maybe we can let a jury decide whether he's guilty or not.
